Nov 24: Panel Discussion: Improving Justice in Rape Cases Through Better Forensics

The team of Ninja Girl organized the Panel Discussion on 24th November, 2016 in Constitution Club of India, New Delhi to discuss about how we can improve justice in rape cases through better forensics.

With funding from the sale of our handbags we have drafted the #SAFEAct- Sexual Assualt Forensic Evidence Act to standardize evidence collection and speed up the testing of evidence. See a Video we made here It’s been noted that in 90% of the sexual assault or rape cases, the victims generally don’t come out in public or are even scared to go to the police station. We at Ninja Girl believe that the medical facilities and the forensic sample collection system should be so strong and well placed that victims shouldn’t hesitate to go to the doctor.

Another huge change the SAFE Act will bring is that victims can go straight to a medical facility without having to go to a police station. Police stations in India are not known to be women friendly. Furthermore, after having the evidence collected the victim will have access to free counselling. This is a tectonic shift if it passes.

The passage of SAFE Act will equip the victims with better forensic sample collection method and timely testing. We are hoping the SAFE ACT will help the chances for justice for hundreds of thousands of women.
